Simone Little – Cajun French Glassblower

Apr 30th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Art

Simone Little is a magnificent glassblower. I have a very dear friend from Rhode Island who is also a glassblower and we Googled Glassblowers here in Louisiana and there she was. In the city my relatives live and I lived many years ago. I hopped in my car to go and meet her and it is a memory I shall never forget.

I went to visit Simone about 3 years ago with high anticipation of seeing her works. My Uncle knew Simone and he was fortunate enough to receive one of her pieces as a Christmas gift. He filled her propane tanks. I begged him for the art, but he wouldn’t turn loose of it.

As I arrived to her home and studio, I was taken aback. She had her works in the same style that you would see going to Macy’s through windows that were open for gazing on her works. There were gentle twinkling lights surrounding her works. Needless to say, I was amazed. Her work is top notch, very beautiful. I’d seen glass before, but nothing compared to what Simone’s art inspired in me.

Furnaces, glory holes, everything, plus more you could imagine from a professional glassblower. She gave me a tour of her studio and introduced me to her apprentice. Then we went to the learning room where she teaches students the art of glassblowing.

She teaches children the art of glassblowing and takes pride in detail. Her works are sold all over the world.

You must check out her website for a glimpse of Simone and her works. You will be glad you did. If you do stop by, she is fluent in the Cajun French language and will be happy to chat.

It was indeed my pleasure to meet Simone Little. She is an artist extraordinaire.
